The Faces and Small Faces keyboardist Ian McLagan is being recognized in his adopted hometown of Austin, Texas. Austin360.com says the community has made plans for a special send-off for the rocker, who'll be traveling to Cleveland for his Rock Hall induction. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell is expected to meet Mac at the airport today to officially declare "Ian McLagan Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Day." The Faces/Small Faces are part of the Rock Hall's 12-member Class of 2012. Other inductees include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N' Roses, Donovan, Laura Nyro, and the Beastie Boys. Other groups earning recognition this year include The Miracles, The Crickets, The Comets, and The Midnighters. This year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is coming up on Saturday.
This isn't the first time McLagan is being recognized with his own day in Austin. He previously received the honor from former Mayor Will Wynn, who proclaimed April 6th, 2006 "Ian 'Mac' McLagan Day." The British-born rocker has lived in the Austin area since the mid-'90s, and over the years has become a prominent fixture in the local music scene.
