Iowa Governor Continues Defense Of "Pink Slime" Beef Product

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad wants Congress to get involved in what he's calling a "smear campaign" against the beef industry.  In his weekly press conference yesterday, Branstad said vegetarians and others including Hollywood, celebrity chefs and the quote, "media elite" are unfairly bashing lean, finely textured beef which has become known as "pink slime."

The governor said Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree has posted inaccurate information about beef on her website as she seeks to label any ground beef containing the product.  Beef Products, Incorporated has shut down several meat facilities, including one in Iowa, over consumer backlash.
