CDC Study Examines Taxing Sugary Beverages

A CDC study says a tax on sugary beverages as a way to reduce obesity rates among kids is only partially effective.  Many state and local governments looked at the success they had in taxing tobacco and tried to apply it to sugary drinks.  But some kids simply substituted their carbonated beverage for OJ or chocolate milk.  The study recommends a combination of taxes on sugary drinks plus a subsidy for healthy alternatives, like water.
