KEWANEE - Patricia M. "Pat" Verscha, 84, of Kewanee, passed away at 7:46 AM, Thursday, March 15, 2012 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, March 19 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. Sebastian Tumusiime. Visitation will be from 5:00 -7:00 PM, Sunday, March 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with a rosary being recited at 6:45 PM. Burial will be in Mt. OlivetCemetery. Memorials may be directed to Visitation School or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
She was born September 8, 1927 in rural Bishop Hill, the daughter of Herman and Cassie (Morse) Hier. She married Edward Verscha on June 22, 1945 inCambridge. He survives, as do three daughters, Marilyn (Harry) Lambert of Knoxville, IL, Gail (Michael) Fleming of Galesburg and Anne Michealbrink of Kent, WA, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and a brother, Herman (Nancy) Hier of Tavares, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Hier and two sisters, Margaret Bergman and Donna Evenson.
Pat had attended schools in Galva. She was a homemaker and had worked at Eagle Supermarket for 17 years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union and had been a longtime member of the Flemish American Club. She enjoyed dancing and especially her family.
