KEWANEE - David Allen Turner, 69, of Kewanee, passed away at his home early Sunday morning, March 18, 2012, after valiantly struggling with heart disease for many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee. Rev. Joe Schmidt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 20 at the funeral home with Masonic services at 7:45 PM. Burial will be in Wethersfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Aquatic Center.
He was born March 24, 1942 in Canton, IL, the son of Ernest Eugene and Roberta M. (Hedden) Turner. He married Myra J. Anderson on November 11, 1966 in Kewanee. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, two sons, David Eugene Turner and James Patrick Turner, a daughter, JoAnne Marie (Ronald) Horton, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David attended Wethersfield schools and graduated from St. Louis School of Engineering in St. Louis, MO with a degree in large engine maintenance. He served in the Kewanee National Guard and worked for the City of Kewanee for 33 years. He also owned and operated Mr. Dave’s Ice in Kewanee for 35 years. He was a member of the Kewanee Masonic Lodge for 41 years.
His passion was anything with a motor and or wheels. He was delighted in maintaining vehicles for his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed taking his family boating on the river at the Ozarks and anywhere else there was water.
