Edgar "Ed" W. Larner Jr., 78, of Quincy, formerly of Oak Run and Gilson, passed away at 10:26 PM, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 12 at Rux Funeral Home in Williamsfield. Rev. Norman Mendell will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamsfield Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America or to Boys Town.
He was born November 20, 1933 in Macomb, IL, the son of Edgar W. and Elda (McCord) Larner Sr. He first married Barbara Lewis. He later married Ramona "Mona" Pearcy in 1983 at Camp Felheimer in Gilson. She survives, as do four sons, Gary Larner of Wataga, Bill Larner of Legonier, IN, Bob Larner of La Mesa, CA and Andy Bixby of McFarland, WI, a daughter, Karen Salter of Summerville SC, two step-daughters, Michele Richardson of Galesburg and Cindy Bixby of Indiana, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A special thank you to grandson, Joe Richardson, for the special care he extended in his grandpa’s final days. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Edgar graduated from Liberty High School and attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. He was a professional Scouter, working as Camp Ranger for Felheimer Camp Reservation which was part of the Prairie Council. He later worked as the District Executive for the Mississippi Valley Council, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Dahinda Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing some golf, being outdoors, camping and all scout related activities. He was part of the OA Vigil and had earned the Wood Badge.
